Competitive Squads

All Year Round Program

All competitive squad swimmers must be a member of the SOPAC Swim Team, and are required to compete at club nights, targeted meets and other social activities run by the SOPAC Swim Team. 

Age Development 1

Coach:  Jay Loureiro

This is the first level of our Competitive Squad Program. The aim of this Squad is to increase competitive skills, improve racing skills, have fun, be the very best swimmer that you can be and compete for the SOPAC Swim Team at carnivals and our own Race Nights. 

Members are required to join the SOPAC Swim Team and compete at once a month Friday Race Nights and targeted swim carnivals. Our Coach Jay will attend all Friday Race Nights and targeted carnivals throughout the year to provide advice, feedback and encouragement. 

Age Development 1 members will be required to attend 3 set training sessions per week. 
Training Times

  • Tuesday & Thursday: 5.30am - 7am in the 50m Training Pool     
  • Wednesday & Friday: 5pm - 6.30pm in the 25m Utility Pool     
  • Saturday: 6am - 7.30pm in the 25m Utility Pool

 

Cost $160 per month 

 

Age Development 2

Coach: Caroline Lopes

These are Metropolitan championship qualifiers. They will continue stroke and skill development in order to progress swimmers aged 10 – 14 years. Aim of the squad is an all round stroke development, aiming to be able to swim a good 200 Individual Medley. Goal is to qualify for State Championships
Requirement 

  • 10 yrs, commitment of 4 times per week 
  • 11 yrs & over, commitment of at least 5 sessions or more per week 
  • Be member of SOPAC Swim Team

 

Training Times 

  • Mon, Tue, Wed: 5am - 7am 
  • Thu-Fri 4.30pm – 6.30pm 
  • Sat: 6am - 8am

 

Cost $165 per month

Age Development 3

Coach: Nick Hawkins

Continuing stroke and skill development to progress swimmers aged 12-16 year olds at NSW State Championship level in multiple events from 100m and longer. Also, an introduction to open Water swimming can be made.  Swimmers are expected to make a full commitment to their training and Individual targets will be set throughout the season.

Requirement

  • Minimum 5 sessions per week 
  • Maximum of 7 sessions per week 
  • Amount of sessions may vary due to coaches’ discretion 
  • Be a member of SOPAC Swim Team 

 

Training Times 

  • Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri: 5am -7.00am 
  • Wed, Thu: 4.30pm - 6.30pm 
  • Sat - 6am - 8.00am 
  • Weekday afternoon training involves dry land exercises from 4pm - 4.30pm 

 

Cost $170 per month

National Age Performance Squad

Coach: Darren Howard

For those swimmers qualified for National Championships, age 13-18. Aim is to continue development in strokes and skills and prepare for a High Performance environment. Swimmers in this group will be introduced to nutrition, strength and conditioning, physio, biomechanics and performance analyses

Requirement

  • Minimum of 7 sessions per week 
  • Maximum of 9 sessions per week 
  • Amount of sessions may vary due to coaches’ discretion 
  • Be a member of SOPAC Swim Team 

 

Training Times 

  • Mon – Fri (excl Wed): 5am - 7am 
  • Mon – Fri (excl Thu):  4.30pm - 6.30pm 
  • Sat: 6am - 8.00am 
  • Weekday afternoon training involves dry land exercises from 4pm - 4.30pm 

 

Cost $180 per month

High Performance Squad

Coach: Job van Duijnhoven  

Goal is to perform at the Australian National Open Championships and selected domestic/international meets. To progress athletes from high achieving age group swimmers into competitive Open National and International athletes. Each athlete will have an Individual Performance Plan and will work closely with external support staff. The squad members are expected to make the highest commitment possible to their swimming.

Requirement 

  • A full commitment to swimming as the athlete’s primary sport 
  • Minimum of 8 swim sessions per week 
  • Minimum of 2 gym sessions per week 
  • A member of the SOPAC Swim Team 

 

Training Times (Individually assessed) 

  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday: 7am – 9am
  • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday Afternoons: 4pm – 6.30pm

 

Cost $180 per month 

How to Enrol

If interested, please email swimteam@sopa.nsw.gov.au to express your interest and a trial will be arranged with the most suitable group. 

All squad swimmers must enroll at the Swim School office prior to participating in any training sessions. 

Competitive squads will pay each month through Direct Debit. 

 

Entry Cards

Once enrolment has been confirmed swimmers and parents will be issued with an entry card. This card enables access to the Centre on your child’s designated training day and times. 

Entry cards need to be presented at the Service Desk to gain entry for your squad session. Your entry cards cannot be used for access to the Centre outside of your training times. Lost or stolen cards are the responsibility of the cardholder and a $5.00 fee will be charged for a replacement card.
