The capsule will be opened on 16 September 2050, 50 years after the Opening Ceremony of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.
The technology used in the systems for pool water filtration and sanitisation is world class. Pool water is disinfected outside the pool using either a two-vessel Ozone Treatment system or an Ultra Violet light treatment system. The Pool water is pumped through filter vessels to remove particles of foreign matter, then through a second vessel where pool water is disinfected by Ozone, which is subsequently removed or after filtration, the pool water is disinfected by passing through Ultra Violet lamps.
After the water is chemically treated to regulate the balance and dosed with chlorine, it is returned to the pool through the pool water distribution system. Being aggressive sanitisers, Ozone and Ultra Violet treatment results in extremely clean water and allows the chlorine residual level to be maintained at a very low level. This results in an environment that virtually eliminates all chemical odours and prevents any irritation to the user.
The filtration systems utilise an extremely efficient diatomaceous earth powder that do not require any chemical additions.
The Competition Pool moveable bulkhead consist of fibre reinforced plastic ribs and an external fibreglass shell. It measures 25 metres long, 1.5 metres wide and 2.21 metres with the safety cage installed. Its height is 300mm above water level and all dimensions comply with FINA regulations.
