SWIM SCHOOL GENERAL INFORMATION

WELCOME

Thank you very much for enrolling into the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre Swim School. We hope that you find the swimming lessons to be an enjoyable and rewarding experience. To assist you we have compiled general information consisting of the most frequently asked questions. Alternatively, our friendly office staff are on hand to answer any queries you may have.

WHAT TO BRING TO SWIMMING LESSONS

  • Swimming costume
  • Towel
  • Goggles (not compulsory but advisable)
  • Swimming cap - (not compulsory but advisable) can be purchased from the swim school office
  • Hair bands for students with long hair
  • Appropriate clothing and footwear to leave the centre

SWIM SCHOOL ENTRY PASSES

Once the Swim School has received full payment you will be given a Swim School Pass. This needs to be presented each week at the Service Desk to be clipped in order to gain entry for Swimming Lessons. Lost or stolen cards are the responsibility of the cardholder and a $5.50 fee will be charged for a replacement card.

One adult spectator per Swim School student is permitted entry into the Centre free of charge to supervise their children (this excludes adult swimming classes).

Other adult family members will be charged general admission fee of $3.00. However if you wish to swim, the normal entry fee of $5.00 for children and $6.40 for adults will apply.

For aqua baby, water baby and fairy penguin classes only, two adults are allowed in free - one to participate in the class and the other to spectate. To assist the service desk staff on entry, you will be required to have your card stamped at the swim school office.

MAKE UP LESSON POLICY

If a lesson cannot be attended, the Swim School Office requires 24 HOURS NOTICE to be eligible for a make up lesson. Any notice less than 24 hours will require a doctor’s certificate. Exceptions will not be made so we kindly ask that you adhere to the policy to avoid disappointment of refusal.

A make up lesson is on a different day, arranged as a replacement for a missed lesson, which the Swim School has been notified about. These are not always beneficial, as you will not always have the same instructor. Therefore it is advisable to always attend your class.

A maximum of two make up lessons per term are allowed and must be completed within the term. Make up lessons are not guaranteed and there is NO credit/refund for monies paid for lessons not attended.

MEDICAL CONSIDERATONS

Please inform the Swim School Office of any medical considerations that the student may have. This information is important to the instructor to be aware of the safety of yourself and others.

CANCELLATIONS

As of 1 July 2008, refunds will NOT be offered for missed lessons or cancellation of the term.

The Swim School Office must be notified of ALL lessons missed before the lesson time. Notification of less than 24 hours before the lesson must be accompanied with a Doctor’s Certificate.

Lessons missed, which the Swim School Office has not been notified about, will not be refunded or credited and there is no entitlement to Make Up Lessons.

Attempts should be made to arrange Make Up Lessons for those lessons missed unless illness is ongoing.

  • Credits are only considered for absences of three or more consecutive lessons.

RE-ENROLMENT

Preference is given to those currently swimming in our Swim School to enrol into the following term. It is important that you follow the procedure and enrol at the required time to ensure your place is secured. We cannot guarantee your position if your enrolment is late.

Before re-enrolling your child you will need to find out what level your child will be in for the next term. Student Assessments take place during week five of a ten-week term program. If a child is going to be going up a level they will be given a pass that you will need to bring to the office with the re-enrolment form. If you are unsure please speak to the swim school office.

Re-enrolment forms will only be processed if you are aware of the level that your child needs to be booked into.

RE-ENROLMENT SAME DAY, TIME & LEVEL

If you
are re-enrolling into the exact same class you are given two weeks priority over other bookings. This is usually done in weeks six and seven of a ten week program, however check with the swim school office for set dates.

RE-ENROLMENT DIFFERENT LEVEL

If your child has been assessed to move up a level you will be handed a coloured card to present to the office upon booking. This week of enrolments is usually done in week eight of a ten week program. You will be given a chance to book your same day and time but different level. If your same day and time is unavailable you will be given the closest possible day and time to your current position.

RE-ENROLMENT DIFFERENT DAY OR TIME

If you need to change any details from your current booking, you can re-enrol usually in week nine of a ten week program. Ensure you have enrolled before the end of term as new enrolments are accepted after the completion of the term.

During the appropriate dates bring your re-enrolment form to the swim school office. Forms need to be accompanied with full payment. Your booking will be processed and a receipt will be issued as confirmation. The receipt will outline the start date, finish date, day, time and level. Please check all information on the receipt to ensure it is correct.

Please Note:
Re-enrolment cannot be done earlier as we need to ensure that all assessments are completed in order for you or your child to be re-booked into the correct class.

PRESCHOOL PARENTS

At the end of Term 4 please notify the Swim School at re-enrolment time for Term 1 if your child will be going to school in the new year so they can progress to a School Aged classes.

Important:
If you miss a term and wish to enrol at a later time, you will be treated as a new enrolment and will need to enrol on our booking days. You will need to contact the Swim School office to place your name on a priority waitlist. If your child has missed more than one term, they will need to be reassessed beforehand.

ASSESSMENTS AND PROGRESSION

Students have been placed in an appropriate level for their ability. Progress is monitored throughout the term by your instructor and office staff. If you are concerned about your grading please see the Swim School office. A re-assessment cannot be guaranteed due to the number of assessments, but we will do our best to accomodate you.

Each level has a checklist of skills that must be accomplished in order to progress to the next level. It is up to the Swim School Assesor to whether all the skills have been achieved to a satisfactory standard.

Learning to swim is a long and ongoing process and can be, for many, a difficult skill to accomplish. Some students will remain on a plateau, while others progress in leaps and bounds. Breathing coordination is especially difficult to master and may take some time.

Please remain patient - our teachers shall do their best to make progress as rapid as possible.
