TELSTRA AUSTRALIAN SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIP - RESULTS

Congratulations to the following swimmers from the SOPAC Swim Team that have made the Telstra Dolphins Australian Swim Team to compete at the 2011 FINA World Championships in Shanghai China from 24-31 July.

  • James Magnussen - High Performance Squad Coach Brant Best
  • Jessica Ashwood - High Performance Squad Brant Best
  • Geoff Huegill - International Squad Coach Grant Stoelwinder
  • Eamon Sullivan - International Squad Coach Grant Stoelwinder

Jess Ashwood   Jessica Ashwood (17) placed 2nd in the Women's 1500m Freestyle.  
  
Jess swam an amazing 16.14.47 and sliced off a massive 16 seconds from her pervious personal best!
 
This will be the first time that Jess has represented Australia at the Open International Level.
 
Jess is also the very first female from the SOPAC Squad Program to gain selection on an Open Australian Team!
 
     
James Magnussen   SOPAC Swim Team Member James Magnussen won the Men's 100m Freestyle Championship.
 
James split a 23.28 and came back in 25.01 to clock a 48.29 which gives him the fastest time swum in the world this year!
 
This swim also gives James the second fastest all-time Australian in a textile swim suit ever, being just 0.11 of a second behind the time that Michael Klim set in 2000!
 
James is now on the Australian Team to compete at the World Championships in China in July along with SOPAC Swim Team Member Jess Ashwood.

Brant Best is the High Performance Swim Coach at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre.

Brant previously was the Coaching Director at Macquarie University and 7 years prior at the Queensland Academy of Sports. He brings with him extensive coaching experience working with some of the world's best swimmers including world record holders Leisel Jones, Libby Trickett, Jade Edmistone and a range of National Team representatives. He has worked from all levels from world record holders to some of the best age group swimmers in the country.

Brant Best, in conjunction with Head Coach Michael Meade, will be working to expand the squad program for our age group swimmers to the elite level with the aim for these swimmers to reach their full potential.
